Baroque Art - Summary
Baroque art started in the 1600s in Rome in Europe. Its images are more realistic and emotionally affecting compared to the Mannerist art; which the baroque art took over. It was developed by the Catholic Church, and was the most important art at that time. It helped the people turn back to their tradition and religious ideas. The Baroque art was succeeded by Caravaggio, Gianlorenzo Bernini and Annibale Carracci. Baroque art was taken over in the 18th century by the Rococo art style. It was more elegant and detailed. Though Baroque art was replaced, it still left an important legend for everyone to know.
